Not everyone on this sight eats, sleeps and breathes the west, as my dear old mum would say if we all had the same opinion life would be a boring place to be! However when these discussions come about it is important to respect everyones views!

With all due respect, this is an Old West reenactment site, there are plenty of other sites for discussing modern issues.

Perhaps we should have a debate on having debates on here...oh...we are...will this get heavy as well then??

I just get concerned when some members on occasion voice opinions that could be seen as un PC......Anyone can read this and anyone with an excuse to expose us all as racial bigots with a penchant for guns and hanging people would gladly do so!

There is an unpleasant and(reading between the lines)a  racial post on the capital punishment thread that i think the author should explain the odd and irrational method of execution involving pig skin.

And there you have it Django.....my opinion is that sort of thing has no place anywhere. If you think like that then keep it to yourself.

It should be removed from the site, by not removing it could be construed that this site condones it.

Well; Capt Grant, I've never looked at it that way before but you have a very valid point.
We ARE a western oriented club/forum and must be EXTREMELY careful and considerate in what we say and articulate on this forum (most own FA or SG)
With the way the public are (PC) and touchy it can't be under-estimated that caution should be the order of the day.
I'm leaning around to 'Boot's' point that there is no earthly point in discussing anything other than 'how long are those boot-straps meant to be worn' and the like.
By the way ; did you know there is a brilliant inter-active civil war museum in Kenosha Wisconsin....it tracks the history of the 8 th wisconsin and has brilliant pics of 'old abe' their eagle mascot that went into every battle during the 'unpleasantness.'

The idea of the Camp Fire is, at it's heart, a good one. Previously there was always a chance that non-western subjects would bleed over into the other areas. That being said, there is now a tendency for some to get into heated debates over issues that are not central to our basic discussions. When that happens it can get a bit nasty and begin to get personal. Then the personal animosity can bleed over into our regular discussions. It is hard to have civil discussions in our regular forum categories when there are personal grudges and problems between members. We're all human and it is easy to fall into that trap.
I'll use that argument to basically agree with Boot and suggest that we can do without a Camp Fire forum and stick to what we all enjoy......the discussion of all things Western. I'll leave the big brains (Judge & Alice) to sort it all out and make the call.

can anyone show me where on the hanging debate was there a fall out or slanging match ?
hanging was part of the old wests way of dealing with law breakers too and this is the campfire thread that covers also non western related topics is it not .
the heated heavy debates where fall outs occur are normally regarding ppls kit, to start dictating on an open forum what ppl can and cannot post about is nothing more than censorship .

now if you have issues with a thread don't comment ,you should be encouraging members to post there opinions and start threads ,all this has done is make members think twice about starting up topics ,me for one.

Again Wyatt, I don't agree. You're very good at starting new topics and we're all grateful for that, but lately there has been a tendency to start these heavy non-Western ones, which several of us now feel create to much animosity.
It's not censorship to ask members to confine discussions to subject within the scope of the forum.
I agree that members should be encouraged to post, but let it be within the subject matter of the group ie. Western topics, that is after all, why we're all here.
As I've said previously, if there is a need for "The Camp Fire" then let's keep the subjects light.

il try and keep further topics on here light hearted but i rarely post in this section anyway ,still stand by my original  posts as i cannot see anywhere where its caused a fall out or a heated exchange .
