Heres one that i never knew of.In 1882 the cigarette was a specialty item made by hand and sold for a penny apiece, but change was in the wind...by 1883 a automatic cigarette rolling machine, the brainchild of 18 yr old James Bonsack, was put into use.It cut the price by half and volume which was in pre-machine days had exceeded 500 million, this meant that they could be too sold commercially...by 1910 it had exceeded 10 billion.American tobacco was able to take advantage of this new technology and like standard oil was such a success that it too had to be broken up by the feds in 1911.
