As a minor deviation, didn't the Royal Navy issue '92 Winchesters?

Yes DP you are correct, I'm not sure what I was thinking, it was the KJ 30-40 krag!

Heck SBS, if I had a quid (UK slang for £1) for every time I can't figure out what I was thinking about, I'd be buying my own Boeing and having 'flying' weekends in California [smile] !!! In any case you opened up a whole new area of investigation .. and that's a gift!

Yes HA .. from what I can find the British Navy did buy a load of Winchester 92's .. mostly for use on armed Trawlers and Minesweepers .. as much because they were easier to handle when boarding a ship they were checking on, compared with the SMLE.

There are probably as many fake RCMP guns as there are Wells Fargo examples!

I reckon you're dead right there Chance .. apart from anything else, any weapon marked 'RCMP' that was made before 1920 is virtually certainly a fake .. they didn't become the RCMP until 1920 .. having previously been the North-west Mounted Police when they were formed in 1873, and the Royal North-west Mounted Police from 1904 onwards. I'm told by the Canadian half of my family that their weapons, if stamped at all, were actually marked 'MP'
